Bonjour, Hello! Bienvenue, Welcome!
🧠Pedagogical sequence based on principles rooted in neuroscience and Canadian second-language research.
Playful expeditions
Authentic cultural discovery
Natural language acquisition
Joyful, tailored, one-on-one
Language Acquisition:
Each expedition focuses on one specific conversation theme: a grammar and vocabulary association.Â
Each conversation theme is part of a larger picture: the FTG curriculum roadmap to fluency.
As you progress through the curriculum, you will discover new conversation themes while reactivating previous ones to reinforce mastery.
Cultural Discovery:Â
Each expedition features a set of 6 authentic cards presenting real life in a Francophone country from a child's perspective.Â
Each expedition is part of the larger picture: the FTG expedition across many different francophone countries to broaden horizons.
FTG Expedition is a pedagogical roadmap designed using the Neurolinguistic Approach (NLA).
Authentic Cards:
The Heart of FTG
Each expedition includes a unique set of 6 cards.
Each card represents a story shared by a youth in a particular francophone country they lived in or visited.
During their interview, the youth also shared information about local food and sociocultural facts; each is also featured.
These cards enable the mentor to guide immersive conversationsÂ
using visual prompts instead of translation prompts,Â
fostering genuine French conversation.
Before departure: picking acountry to visit and a narrator
First of all, your child will choose an expedition on French To Go Francophone Expedition's Map.
Will he/she discover Switzerland through Sofie’s eyes, or Senegal through Lionel’s eyes?
During the hot month of July, Sara enjoys family time and a lot of swimming... In one of her stories, she has a funny encounter with a jellyfish.
From the schoolyard to family ceremonies, including summer activities, Serena takes us on a tour from her town to Gabon and back.
From la concession Bonatepe to reserve De Bandia, passing by Le parc national des Oiseau de Djouj, discover a down to earh senegalese life.
After daytime activities in family, Hugo head back with his mother and sister to their hotel in France to rest.Â
Phase 1 of 3: Oral Fluency & Human InteractionÂ
(Activities 1-3)
Two-player game, human connection & authentic Cards Interaction
To take their turn, the student answers a question about the authentic card visuals—but they also ask the mentor a question so the mentor can play too. This creates a real-life dialogue about the expedition's linguistic theme where the focus is on authentic conversation and the joy of the game, rather than just repetition.
Positive Emotional ChargeÂ
The excitement of the game creates a positive bond between the child, the mentor and the French language, turning every session into a true human moment experienced in French.
Ease and Confidence
To ensure a resistance-free experience, students are always supported with model sentences so they can focus on speaking rather than searching their memory for words. In cases of spontaneous production, if an error occurs, they instantly receive a model to reuse. This allows them to speak with confidence and naturally develop their skills through use.
We do not subscribe to the traditional teaching paradigm where one first learns the language through exercises to then speak it; we believe the opposite is true: to develop language skills, you must use it.
Phase 2 of 3: The Literacy Bridge
(Activities 4-5)
Reading the stories behind the cards
Students discover with their mentor the youth stories behind the cards, moving from the speaking game to the reading of the lived experience of the narrator.
Writing their own version of the conversation theme of the expedition
Students are invited to create their own authentic version of the linguistic focus theme, which will serve them in phase 3.Â
We follow the natural language acquisition flow: speak, read, write: not the other way around.
Phase 3 of 3: Transfer and extension
(Activities 6-7)
From spontaneous use to explicit knowledge
The grammar and vocabulary used during phases one and two are observed and rationalized.
Language: a tool for relationshipÂ
Generally, we write for a reason: we write to be read. In the correspondance-game, student reuse their personal production to connect with other kids, who just like them, navigate a bilingual journey.
Contribution to the collective culture and fostering cultural curiosity beyond the cards
Through their expedition, students have connected with the language through the activities with their mentor, and also with the culture through the expedition's visual. In session 1-4, they've collected collection cards. It's time for them to pick on item in own of them, do a small research about it and post-it into the collective culture map for others to discover, too. They become a contributor to a human community of young explorers and they transformed their expedition into a gateway to tangible reality offered by as second language accros Canadian border.

«Valerie has been working with my two sons and myself for almost four year now. She has a cheerful personality that we are drawn to, a tremendous amount of patience, and extensive pedagogical knowledge in learning the French language. Recently, I’ve noticed my kids are more interested in implementing what they’ve been learning with Valerie and her team into our daily activities at home. I am excited for what the future holds for us as we continue our journey with French To Go» - Jessica
