The Neurolinguistic Approach constitutes our deep roots for our content and facilitation techniques.Â
The Neurolinguistic Approach was developed by emeritus researchers and professors from Eastern Canada to help learners develop their skills in a new language. Recognized for its effectiveness, it is now used by numerous school districts across the country.Â
The Five Key Principles of the NLA within our Expeditions:Â
The Literacy Loop: language learning follows a natural progression: Speak → Read → Write → Grammar. The pedagogical sequence of our expeditions is strictly structured to respect this biological sequence.
Internal vs. External Grammar: we distinguish between internal grammar (acquiring linguistic reflexes through practice and interaction) and external grammar (conscious understanding of rules). Our activities are specifically designed to build internal (spontaneous) grammar first, ensuring the natural acquisition of skills rather than the memorization of rules.
Meaningfulness and Project-Based Pedagogy: NLA highlights the importance of using language to fulfill a real objective. Our activities based on play and authentic discovery of the world, giving each session a purpose that meets a real need for the child: having fun and discovering the world.
Authenticity: genuine engagement is the key to language acquisition because it transforms forced learning into a lived experience. FTG's authentic 1:1 moments allow real life to be the foundation for learning. Furthermore, our visual supports — the Francophone Albums — were born from dialogues with children, allowing the design of authentic pedagogical material.Â
Social Interaction: communication is the ultimate goal of any language. Our learners interact daily with their mentors and connect with other students through our correspondence game, making the language come alive through human connection.
Dr. Gordon Neufeld is a Vancouver-based developmental psychologist and the author of the bestseller Hold On to Your Kids. His life's work is centered on the Neufeld Paradigm, a model that explains how children "grow up" rather than just "grow older."
His core philosophy is that for a child to reach their full potential, they do not need to be taught independence or pushed to be mature. Instead, maturity is a spontaneous result of three specific conditions: Attachment, Vulnerability, and Maturation.
