Play and discover the world, in French
This is a series of 20-minute activities during which your child connects with a mentor to play and discover the world in French. Through play, the mentor will guide your child to express themselves using complete sentences. Throughout the activities, your child will be encouraged to use French easily to observe, understand, react, express themselves, and tell stories.
Specifically, your child will:
Play and explore different French-speaking countries through authentic conversations, adapted to their French level, with a mentor.
Interact with other children through an online matching game where they use their own texts to earn points.
Contribute to a collective cultural map to leave their mark on the French to Go map.
The activities are designed to keep children engaged by combining play with the discovery of French-speaking countries;
Each learning path has a specific conversation theme: a combination of grammar and vocabulary;
The natural sequence of language acquisition is followed: speaking, reading, writing, and discovering grammar within written texts; and not the other way around.
The methodology behind the routes, what makes French to Go unique
Each learning path follows the French to Go pedagogical sequence, which consists of 7 activities repeated in a loop to develop fluency in French. From speaking to reading, from writing to connecting and contributing, the conclusion of each path is an introduction to the vast Francophone world that they can explore and with which they can build connections, beyond French to Go. Here is an overview of the 7 activities:
Your child will choose a country and a game, embarking on a journey to discover a Francophone culture by interacting with unique visuals called authentic cards. The mentor will guide the conversation, encouraging your child to speak by responding to them, much like in a play! This creates a genuine dialogue and allows them to experience a Francophone moment tailored to their level of French.
Activity 4 : read to discover
Now is the time to revisit the theme of the journey through reading. Your child will read, with their mentor, the stories of young people behind the cards, moving from oral play to reading.
Activity 5 : writing to get involved
Votre enfant sera amené à écrire, à la main, une version personnelle sur le thème abordé tout au long du parcours.
Activity 6 : participate to connect
Language is a relational tool, which is why we created the matching game. Here, your child will reuse their text from Activity 5 to connect with other young people who, like them, are navigating a bilingual learning path. They will post their text in the column with other children and thus earn points in an interactive game. Since each child participates in this activity asynchronously, your child will be curious to discover what has happened in the game in the meantime.
Activity 7 : publish to leave your mark
Finally, your child will choose an element that particularly interests them from one of the authentic maps they selected during the journey and conduct a little research about it before posting it on the French To Go collective culture world map. In doing so, they become contributors to a community of young explorers and transform their journey into a gateway to the tangible reality of a second language beyond Canadian borders.
